GB Standards and Chinese National Standards for Steel Buildings

GB is the abbreviation of the Pinyin "国标 Guo Biao", which means "Chinese national standard" in English, and is issued by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC), the Chinese National Committee of the ISO and the IEC.

All character set standards that originate in the PRC have designations that begin with "GB" or "GB/T". Mandatory standards are prefixed with "GB"; The recommended standard is prefixed with "GB/T", T is short for the first letter of Pinyin "推荐 Tui Jian", which means "recommended" in English.

We (UnionSSM) will introduce you the main Chinese Standards for Structure Steels in this blog.

 

A1.1 Main Chinese Standards for Steel Materials

 

GB/T 1591-2018 High strength low alloy structural steels

This standard specifies the designation method, order content, size, shape, weight, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate of low-alloy high-strength structural steel.
This standard applies to general structural and engineering low-alloy high-strength structural steel plates, strips, sections, bars, etc. Its chemical composition also applies to billets.

GB/T 700-2006 Carbon structural steels (ISO 630:1995,Structural steels- Plates,wide flats,bars,sections and profiles,NEQ)

This standard specifies the grade, size, shape, weight and allowable deviation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate of carbon structural steel.
This standard applies to hot-rolled steel sheets, strips, sections and bars for welding, riveting, and bolting engineering structures generally used in the delivery state.
The chemical composition specified in this standard also applies to ingots, continuous casting billets, billets and their products.

GB/T 11263-2017 Hot rolled H and cut T section steel

This standard applies to hot-rolled H-beams and T-beams split by hot-rolled H-beams, it specifies the order content, classification, code, size, shape, weight and allowable deviation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, quality certificate of them.

 

GB/T 706-2016 Hot rolled section steel

This standard is applicable to Hot-rolled I-beam, hot-rolled channel, hot-rolled equal-angle steel, hot-rolled unequal angle steel, specifies the order content, size, shape, weight and allowable deviation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging , logo and quality certificate of them.

 

GB/T 8162-2018 Seamless steel tubes for structural purposes

This standard specifies the order content, dimensions, shape, weight, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificates of seamless steel pipes for structural purposes. This standard applies to seamless steel pipes for mechanical structures and general engineering structures.

 

A1.2 Main Chinese Standards for bolts

 

GB/T 5780-2016 Hexagon head bolts—Product grade C (ISO 4016.2011,MOD)

This standard specifies the type, size, technical conditions and marking of C-grade hexagon head bolts, applies to hexagon head bolts with thread specifications M5~M64, performance grades 4.6 and 4.8, and product grade C. 

This standard is a modification of the ISO 4016.2011 Hexagon head bolts — Product grade C, and can be considered equivalent.

 

GB/T41-2016 Hexagon nuts,style 1-Product grade C  [ISO 4034:2012,Hexagon regular nuts(style 1)-Product grade C.MOD]

This standard specifies the type, dimensions, technical conditions and markings of C-grade 1-type hexagon nuts, applies to type 1 hexagon nuts with thread specifications M5~M64,  performance grade 5, and product grade C.

This standard is a modification of the ISO 4034:2012,Hexagon regular nuts(style 1)-Product grade C, and can be considered equivalent.

 

GB 1228 - 2006 High strength bolts with large hexagon head for steel structures  [ISO 7412:1984,Hexagon bolts for high strength structural bolting with large width across flats(short thread length)- Product grade C-Property classes 8.8 and 10.9,NEQ]

This standard specifies the type, size, technical conditions and markings of high-strength hexagon head bolts with thread specifications of M12~M30.
This standard applies to railway and highway bridges, boiler steel structures, industrial plants, high-rise civil buildings, tower and mast structures, hoisting machinery and other steel structure friction type high-strength bolt connections.

This standard corresponds to ISO7412: 1984 "Hexagon bolts for high-strength structural bolting with large width across flats (short thread length) – Product grade C – Property classes 8.8 and 10.9", and the degree of consistency with ISO7412 is not equivalent.

 

GB 1229 - 2006 High strength large hexagon nuts for steel structures  [ISO 4775:1984,Hexagon nuts for high strength structural bolting with large width across flats- Product grade B-Property classes 8 and 10,NEQ]

This standard specifies the type, size, technical conditions and marking of high-strength hexagonal nuts with thread specifications of M12~M30.

This standard applies to the steel structure friction type high-strength bolt connection pair used in conjunction with GB/T1228 "High strength bolts with large hexagon head for steel structures".

This standard corresponds to ISO4775:1984 "Hexagon nuts for high-strength structural bolting with large width across flats – Product grade B – Property classes 8 and 10", the degree of consistency with ISO4775 is non-equivalent.

GB 1230 - 2006 High strength plain washers for steel structures  (ISO 7416:1984,Plain washers,chamfered,hardened and tempered for high strength structural bolting,NEQ)

This standard specifies the type, size, technical conditions and markings of high-strength washers with a size of 12mm~30mm.
This standard applies to the steel structure friction type high-strength bolt connection pair used in conjunction with GB/T1228 "High strength bolts with large hexagon head for steel structures".

This standard corresponds to ISO7416:1984 "Plain washers, chamfered, hardened and tempered for high-strength structural bolting", and the degree of consistency with ISO7416 is not equivalent.

GB 1231 - 2006 Specifications of high strength bolts with large hexagon head,large hexagon nuts,plain washers for steel structures 

This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking and packaging of high-strength large hexagon head bolts, large hexagon nuts, washers and connecting pairs for steel structures.
This standard applies to railway and highway bridges, boiler steel structures, industrial plants, high-rise civil buildings, tower and mast structures, hoisting machinery and other steel structure friction type high-strength bolt connections.

GB 1231 - 2006 Specifications of high strength bolts with large hexagon head,large hexagon nuts,plain washers for steel structures 

This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking and packaging of high-strength large hexagon head bolts, large hexagon nuts, washers and connecting pairs for steel structures.
GB 3632 - 2008 Sets of torshear type high strength bolt hexagon nut and plain washer for steel structures
 

 

GB 50017-2017 Standard for design of steel structures

In order to implement the national technical and economic policies in the design of steel structures, to achieve advanced technology, safety and application, economical rationality, and quality assurance, this standard is formulated.
This standard applies to the steel structure design of industrial and civil buildings and general structures.
In addition to this standard, the design of steel structures should also comply with the current relevant national standards.

 

GB 50205-2020 Standard for acceptance of construction quality of steel structures

The main technical contents of this standard are: general rules, terms and symbols, basic regulations, acceptance of raw materials and finished products, welding engineering, fastener connection engineering, processing of steel parts and steel components, steel component assembly engineering, steel component pre-assembly engineering, single Storey, multi-storey and high-rise steel structure installation engineering, space structure installation engineering, profiled metal plate engineering, painting engineering and completion acceptance of steel structure division, etc.

 

GB 50300-2013 Unified standard for constructional quality acceptance of building engineering

This standard is divided into 6 chapters and 8 appendices. The main technical contents include: general rules, terminology, basic regulations, division of construction quality acceptance, construction quality acceptance, and construction quality acceptance procedures and organization.

 

GB 50016-2014 Code for fire protection design of buildings

This code applies to the following new, expanded and reconstructed buildings: 1 workshop; 2 warehouse; 3 civil buildings; 4 A, B, C liquid storage tanks (areas); 5 flammable and combustion-supporting gas storage tanks (areas); 6 flammable Material yard; 7 urban traffic tunnels.
