Steel structural framing is a form of building structure mainly composed of steel plates, section steels, steel pipes, steel cables and other steels connected by welds, bolts or rivets. Compared with reinforced concrete structures or other structural forms, steel structural framing has advantages of low strength, light weight, good plastic toughness and seismic performance, etc., and is widely used in mechanized processing scenarios. Steel has higher strength and higher modulus of elasticity. Compared with concrete and wood, the ratio of steel density to strength is lower. So under the same stress conditions, the steel structure has a small cross-section and light weight, which is more convenient for transportation and installation.
Steel is suitable for bearing shock and dynamic loads, and has excellent seismic performance. Its internal organizational structure is uniform, close to an isotropic homogeneous body. The actual work performance is more in line with the calculation theory. Therefore, the reliability of the steel structure is high.
Steel structural members are easy to manufacture in factories and assemble on site. The factory mechanized manufacturing of steel structure components has features of high precision, high production efficiency, fast assembly speed and short construction period. The steel structure is the most industrialized structure.
Because the steel structure is a welded structure, it can be completely sealed and made into high-pressure containers, large oil pools, and pressure pipes, with good air-tightness and water-tightness.
When the temperature is below 150°C, the steel properties change little. Therefore, the steel structure is suitable for hot workshops. But when the surface of the structure is exposed to heat radiation of about 150°C, it should be protected by a heat shield. When the temperature is between 300°C and 400°C, the strength and elastic modulus of the steel decrease significantly, and when the temperature is around 600°C, the strength of the steel tends to zero. In buildings with special fire protection requirements, refractory materials must be used for protection to improve the fire resistance level.
Steel is prone to rust in wet and corrosive environments. Generally, steel needs to be derusted, galvanized or painted, and regularly maintained. For offshore platform structures in seawater, special measures should be taken to strengthen corrosion resistance.
Demolition of steel structure buildings will hardly produce construction waste, and the steel can be recycled and reused, which is very environmentally friendly.
